How to Use Patcher in FL Studio

Create complex effect chains and layered instruments in a single interface. Learn how to route audio and data inside FL Studio's Patcher.

Patcher allows you to chain multiple VSTs and effects into a single plugin instance. It is perfect for creating complex 'super-instruments' or saving elaborate processing chains.

Follow these steps

  1. Load the Patcher Workspace

Load Patcher as an instrument in the Channel Rack or as an effect in a Mixer slot. You will see a workspace for connecting nodes.

  2. Add Plugins to the Map

Right-click the Map area to add plugins. You can add instruments if using Patcher as a VST, or effects if using it in the Mixer.

  3. Route Audio and Data

Click and drag the nodes to connect them. Yellow nodes carry audio signals, while green nodes carry MIDI and automation data.

  4. Create a Custom Interface

Switch to the 'Surface' tab and right-click to add knobs or sliders. Link these to plugin parameters to create a custom user interface.

Common mistakes

  • Creating a 'feedback loop' by routing a plugin back into itself.
  • Making a layout so messy that you can't trace where the audio is going.
