How to Use Automation Clips in FL Studio

Automation clips allow you to change parameters like volume, panning, or filter cutoffs over time. This guide shows you how to create and edit these clips to add life to your production.
Follow these steps
Tweak the Target Parameter
Move the knob or slider you want to automate, such as a volume fader or a filter cutoff. This registers the control as the 'last tweaked' parameter.
Create the Clip
Go to the 'Tools' menu, then 'Last tweaked', and select 'Create automation clip'. The clip will appear in your Playlist across the current selection.
Edit the Automation Curve
Right-click on the line in the Playlist to add new tension points. Left-click and drag these points to change the value of the parameter at specific times.
Adjust Curve Tension
Click and drag the small circle between two points to change the curve shape. This allows for smooth fades or sharp, dramatic changes in the sound.
Common mistakes
- Creating automation for the wrong parameter because the 'Last tweaked' history was overwritten.
- Making automation curves too steep, resulting in audible clicks or unnatural jumps.
