How to Save Custom Presets in FL Studio

Never lose a great sound again. Learn how to save your custom VST settings and Mixer chains as presets in FL Studio's library.

Saving presets allows you to build a personal library of unique sounds and effect chains. This speeds up your workflow by letting you recall your favorite settings instantly.

Follow these steps

  1. Save Plugin Presets

For a VST, click the arrow in the top-left corner of the plugin window. Select 'Save preset as...' and choose a descriptive name.

  2. Store Mixer Track States

To save an entire Mixer track's effects, right-click the track in the Mixer. Go to 'File' and select 'Save mixer track state as...' to store the whole chain.

  3. Organize into Sub-Folders

Organize your presets by creating sub-folders within the 'Plugin Presets' or 'Mixer Presets' directories in your FL Studio user data folder.

  4. Reload Your Sounds

Drag and drop your saved preset from the Browser directly onto a channel or mixer track to reload it in any future project.

Common mistakes

  • Saving presets in random Windows folders instead of the FL user data folder.
  • Giving presets vague names like 'Synth 1' which makes them hard to find later.
