How to Make Vocal Chops in FL Studio

This tutorial explains how to slice a vocal melody into small pieces to create rhythmic patterns. This technique is a staple in modern EDM, Pop, and Hip-Hop production.
Follow these steps
Load Into Fruity Slicer
Right-click your vocal sample in the browser and select 'Open in new Fruity Slicer channel.' This automatically chops the audio.
Auto-Slice the Vocal
Click the 'Slicing' icon (the knife) and choose 'Auto-slice' or 'Medium auto-slicing.' This detects the transients and cuts the vocal into syllables.
Sequence the Chops
Open the Piano Roll for the Fruity Slicer channel. Experiment by drawing in different note patterns to create a new melody.
Fine-Tune the Envelopes
Adjust the 'Attack' and 'Decay' knobs in Fruity Slicer to remove clicks at the start of chops or to make them sound 'plucky.'
Common mistakes
- Chopping at points where the waveform is high, causing audible 'clicks' or 'pops.'
