How to Install VST Plugins in FL Studio

Expand your sound library by installing VST plugins. Learn how to scan for and load third-party instruments and effects in FL Studio.

This guide helps you add third-party VST instruments and effects to your FL Studio library. You will learn how to set up search folders and perform a plugin scan.

Follow these steps

  1. Install the Plugin Files

Install your VST plugin using its own installer and note the folder path where the '.dll' or '.vst3' file is saved. Typical paths include 'C:/Program Files/VSTPlugins'.

  2. Open the Plugin Manager

In FL Studio, go to 'Options' and select 'Manage plugins'. This opens the FL Studio Plugin Manager window.

  3. Add the Search Path

Click the 'Add path' icon (folder with a plus sign) and select the folder where you installed your new VST. This tells FL Studio where to look.

  4. Run a Plugin Scan

Press the 'Find more plugins' button at the top. Wait for the list to populate; new plugins will usually appear in a different color.

Common mistakes

  • Installing 32-bit plugins into a 64-bit folder, which may cause stability issues.
  • Forgetting to click 'Find more plugins' after adding a new folder path to the manager.
